Over the past couple of years, Twitter has become one of the fastest media outlets in sports on the internet. With information getting out to fans, players and the sports media with lightening quick speed, leaked info or rumors can spread like a wildfire and that is exactly what happen recently with actor Rob Lowe tweeting about Peyton Manning.
After the worst season in franchise history for the Indianapolis Colts (2-14 record), Colts owner Jim Irsay has been cleaning house by firing his vice chairman and GM. These moves were a surprise to most with the consensus was that this was just a bad season without Manning under center. Despite that probably being the case, the rumors of the Colts trading Peyton Manning have started to circulate and gain steam with the New York Jets possibly being very interested in acquiring the four-time NFL MVP quarterback.
With Jim Irsay already saying that the Indianapolis Colts will take Stanford’s Andrew Luck with the number one overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft, these rumors of a Peyton Manning trade may very well be true. The problem is that Manning may no longer be able to play football with his neck surgery holding him back from being the dominant quarterback is excepting to be when healthy.
With that being said, there have also been some rumors surrounding Peyton Manning about the superstar quarterback possibly considering retirement from the NFL. This may very well be a distinct possibility as one-time Super Bowl champion might not be able to get back on the field with too many question marks surrounding that neck that doesn’t seem to be healing the way it is supposed to.
The plot continues to thicken about Peyton Manning’s future with a controversial tweet on Twitter by actor Rob Lowe. Even though Lowe has no affiliation with the NFL or Colts, the actor said that he had heard from his people that Peyton Manning was ready to announce his retirement from the NFL. This obviously got a lot of people talking around the NFL, but the rumor spread by Lowe was quickly shot down by Colts owner Jim Irsay and Peyton’s father Archie Manning.
Both Irsay and Archie said that Peyton is not retiring and that if he were, they would be the first to know; not actor Rob Lowe. Here is Rob Lowe’s tweet:
“Hearing my fave, #18 Peyton Manning will not return to #NFL. Wow. #Colts” via @RobLowe
So despite Rob Lowe’s inside source and the fact that Peyton Manning might be able to physically do it at the NFL anymore, there is still a good chance that one of the best quarterbacks of alltime will be back under center for the Indianapolis Colts next season with rookie gunslinger Andrew Luck backing him up.
